With summer coming up, many brands are jumping on the bandwagon of coming out with sunset-toned eyeshadow products. While these ultra-warm tones are normally considered more “fall” colors, they have become very trendy this summer. The minute each new palette launches, they seem to sell out immediately. Let’s take a look at the ultimate guide to sunset eyeshadow palettes.
The first palette to capture the hearts of millions of beauty lovers in sunset tones was the Anastasia Modern Renaissance palette. Costing 42, it sold out time and time again. The neutral to berry tones are ultra-pigmented and unique. It has ultra mattes, satins, and metallics all formulated to be of stunning quality. It is called the Renaissance palette because of its present-day take on Renaissance colors. Check out my review and swatches here. This palette is free of parabens, sulfates, and phthalates.
Next, came Huda Beauty’s Eyeshadow Palette Rose Gold Edition. Costing $65, this palette has highly pigmented mattes, chrome pressed pearls, and 3D metal shades. The stunning glittery shadows add texture to the eyes and the creamy mattes blend seamlessly into the crease. Some criticized this palette due to this gritty glitter texture. It really depends on the consumer yourself if you would appreciate that style of eyeshadow. The brand recommends applying the metallics with a finger instead of a brush to maximize color payoff. This palette is free of talc, parabens, and phthalates.
Then, indie brand Coloured Raine brought out their Queen of Hearts palette. Retailing for $50, there are 6 matte shades and 6 foil shades ranging from neutrals to purples and reds. Beauty bloggers and vloggers loved the palette. Since it sold out quickly due to hype, it will be returning in August as a permanent item. This palette is cruelty free and mostly vegan except for one shadow. Coloured Raine is known for their lip products, but this eyeshadow palette shows that they carry the same quality level to eyeshadows as well.
Soon after, luxury brand Natasha Denona came out with their Sunset Eyeshadow Palette. Natasha Denona eyeshadows are known for their excellent quality, but high price tag. For a whopping $129, it sold out within minutes and is being brought back as a permanent item. The palette includes matte, duo chrome, metallic, and chroma crystal finishes in all warm browns, burnt oranges, reds, golds, bronzes, and yellows. The shadows are infused with real crushed pearls, are water-resistant, and are formulated with mica to hydrate the eyelids. This palette is cruelty free and free of talc.
The newest edition to sunset eyeshadow palettes comes from affordable brand Colourpop. Colourpop’s Yes, Please! palette will also be coming back after selling out in under 15 minutes. It looks very similar in color tones to the Natasha Denona palettes, but does not provide the same intensity of shimmers that Natasha Denona’s does. However, this palette only cost $16.00 for 12 shades. Colourpop’s supplier claims to be cruelty-free as well. This is Colourpop’s first large pressed eyeshadow palette, but since it just launched, there is not enough information to see if it is worth the hype.
All in all, what do I recommend? If you are going for more berry tones, go for the Anastasia Modern Renaissance. It has those beautiful burgundies, amazing quality, and the lowest price tag in that color family. If you are going with more orangey-yellow colors, wait until reviews come out for Colourpop’s Yes Please! palette. I would try Colourpop unless you are have a lot of money to invest in the luxury Natasha Denona products.
